Hotel Hollenden

Opened in 1885, the eight-story Hollenden became the central hotel
for events and politics in Cleveland.
A 1926 addition boosted it to one-thousand rooms.
It was demolished in 1963 and replaced with the Hollenden House hotel.
With the decline of downtown in the 1989 it closed
and was replaced by the 1992 Bank One Center.

ちょっと50’sの雰囲気を引きずった感じで
いかにもアメリカアメリカしているように思います。

ホテルがクローズした1989年ですが、
アメリカは未曾有の不況でした。
ニューヨークもまだ明るくなりきれなかった頃で
いまの治安の良さ、明るさが嘘のよう。
ニューヨークですら、
あれだけ景気が悪かったのですから
もともとUrban decayなどと言われていたこの街が
どういう状況だったかは考えるだけで辛くなります。
